MIST NATIONALS 2018
I am 89347598% sure that I will start crying while writing this. But I am so overwhelmed by this weekend (in a good way) that I just have to get it out, so please just bear with me :')
Nationals in New York City was one of the best experiences of my entire life. (If you're not sure what MIST is, check out my regionals post)! The amount of love I had in my heart then is nothing compared to what took place this weekend.
First and foremost, I need to talk about my region and our fearless cult leader, Zain Khan. When we walked into the auditorium on the first day for orientation, it was rough. There were a ton of circumstances out of our control (this is shade being thrown at Dallas, AP testing week, and flight-delaying weather), that tanked our competitor numbers so that the Houston team was not nearly as big as it should have been. Safe to say, it kinda killed the vibe. Not to mention that we got screwed over by the refs in boys basketball that night. KLEIN DESERVED THE W, but they fought hella hard and we're still so proud.
Nevertheless, ZAIN KHAN did not let us down. By the time, everyone regrouped Friday night in the dorm lounge, it was almost 11 pm ("curfew" was at midnight). But did that stop Zain??? LOL nope. He dragged us all out to a private beach on Long Island and we had the night of our lives. Although some of us almost lost our lives getting to the beach (how many people can we fit in a car with all the seats down? the answer is at least eleven people), we made it. The boardwalk was empty and we had the whole beach to ourselves. So what did we do after running into the ocean at the middle of the night? We got lit. For real though, we had a bonfire and told some wild jinn stories. And in order to keep things low key, anything that happened after 3 am will have to stay with MIST Houston hehehe.
It wasn't just the beach night. Zain not only made this weekend possible, he made it one that none of us are going to forget. WE ARE SO GRATEFUL FOR YOU ZAIN KHAN. H-Town will hold it down for you forever. Thank you for everything.
Second, how am I going to talk about MIST Nationals and not talk about FLORIDA?! If Friday night was our chance to bond with our region, Saturday night was when we made some new friends and TOOK OVER NEW YORK CITY. Florida, you guys are some of the best people I met this entire weekend. You made this Times Square experience unlike any other. And even though I am so sad at the fact that ya'll live so far away, you already know I'm saving up for a plane ticket.

Also, can I get a YURRRRR for my boys on the Florida Improv team, I only got to see maybe ten minutes of ya'lls show but within those ten minutes I already knew you had FIRST PLACE in the bag. And that SHORT FILM THOUGH!!!! Everyone needs to see this (seriously, click the link and watch it). You guys are gonna change the world. Keep spreading that mercy. And I can't forget my photography queen, Rayan. Please come to Houston and take my pictures. I miss you already. Of course, this isn't everyone from Florida that placed because you guys KILLED IT, but I still I had to mention ya'll. Thank you for everything.
Third, I'm gonna brag on my social media team because we placed 3rd in a NATIONAL tournament and I could not be more proud of ya'll. I know we had our tense moments (lol that's my fault), but truly, from the bottom of my heart, ya'll deserve this award. You worked for it. Oh hey, by the way, I might've gotten first place for original oratory?!!?!?! ALHAMDULLILAH, all praise to God. I honestly thought I was going to die of a heart attack waiting for them call awards because I couldn't breathe. (Thanks for letting me squeeze the circulation out of your hand, Dana). I can't even put into words how happy I am. I mean, here I am writing an entire blog post about it but I still don't think it's enough.
I don't know what else to say. Probably because the tears running down my face and constantly having to reach for tissues is making it hard to focus. But I really need everyone to know how much Nationals meant to me. This weekend was reaping the rewards of hard work, loosing our voices during chant offs, dropping spoken word wisdom in the middle of Times Square, tracking sand back to our dorms, and making friends from all over the country. This weekend was the Valor of Mercy in full force. This weekend was my heart essentially exploding out of love for everyone. Thank you for everything.
